At this week’s National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention in Las Vegas, Mad Men creator and writer Matt Weiner announced he would not go past 6 seasons with the popular AMC series.
While fielding questions about how he is able to create great content year after year for the series, Weiner said that he could not see writing or even continuing the series past a 6th season. Mad Men, which just began shooting it’s 4th season, is a top show for AMC and has won numerous awards for it’s writing. It chronicles the life of marketing executives in the 60′s.
Weiner revealed this shocking news rather unceremoniously while talking about how he creates the show’s twists and turns each season. Viewers have seen staple characters undergo major changes throughout the first 3 seasons, and Weiner said they can expect the same for the next few seasons, should the show be renewed.
This news may come as a shocker to hardcore Mad Men fans, but in my mind it gives the show a better chance of going out on a high note.

“Mad Men, which just began shooting it’s 4th season…won numerous awards for it’s writing.” Does anyone proofread these articles?
Speaking as someone who works for outfits like this, no, someone is not proofreading these things. Welcome to new media. (Of course, of the things I don’t like about new media, I’d say pedantic commenters kvetching about grammar are way way way worse than typos, but that’s just me.)
@jake HAHA! I love your retort! So Great! And we do actually proof-read our stuff …once it’s posted …but even then we feel that people can deal with our quick posts once they understand that this is a hobby for us and we all have full-time jobs other then this site.
This is a terrific idea on Weiner’s part. The show has done a marvelous job of avoiding cliches related to typical TV and film dramas set in the 1960′s, but I fear that the further we get into the decade, the less possible this will be. I don’t want to see Peggy go to Woodstock.
it’s = it is
its = possessive
i am so waiting for madmen to hit the late sixties. peggy is going to do acid and become a flower child…………… everyone will grow beards and long hair….
Mad Men will end as soon as Christina Hendricks’ breasts begin to sag too much.
