I awoke this morning to a cloudy foggy day in both reality and hope. So that might be a bit of melodrama but it still accurately describes the feeling I had when I learned that Microsoft had decided to delay Gears of War 3 to Holiday 2011 from the previously announced April date. What is strange is that the game’s developer, Epic, had announced a firm date of April 5, 2011. Usually when a firm date is announced the game does not get delayed, especially on such a marquee franchise. The other frustrating news is that the delay is purely to have a big game launch for Microsoft during the Christmas season. This means that, while the game will be finished by April 5th, the delay is purely because MS has no big game planned post April of 2011.
It will be interesting to see the reaction Epic has to the news. Will they add new modes or give something to the fans with the extra months of development?
